Commonly asked questions – Rug yarns vs. Knitting yarns

Since we are selling directly to many hobbyists, rug makers and business owners who run tufting workshops, we get some of these questions a lot, we will answer them here 🙂

1. Why is your yarn stiffer than those that come in a ball?

Our yarns are manufactured for carpet manufacturers around the world, they are NOT knitting yarns. Rug yarns are intentionally made relatively stiffer compared to knitting yarns to withstand foot traffic. Rug yarns are also thinner compared to knitting yarn to minimize wastage.

2. Do you sell thick yarns?

We understand that certain tufting studios would prefer to use thick and soft yarns that only require 1 strand to thread through a tufting gun for ease of conducting workshops, yarns like this are not made for tufting purpose and will not withstand the wear & tear of a carpet/rug.

We only sell yarns that are compliant to the carpet making industry standards, we do not carry thick and soft yarns.

Estimated Shipping Fee

Below is the estimated shipping fee to a few countries we commonly shipped to. Estimated shipping rates are for shipment of 100kg and above. If your country is not in the list, please drop us an email at hi@tuftinasia.com to enquire.

Please note that below shipping fee are for reference purpose only, shipping rates and their surcharges change daily, exact shipping fee will be quoted upon weighing your order after packaging.

For price per KG, we take volumetric or actual weight, whichever that is higher. Here is an example – if you order 100kg of yarn, after winding into cone, the overall volumetric weight will be slightly higher at 120kg, this is due to the empty core of each cone and ourter packaging.

For price per CBM, each CBM can fit about 150kg of yarn. If CBM price is available for your country, we recommend going for CBM price as it would most likely be lower than price per kg.

Air freight is express, and will take about 5-7 work days to deliver, whereas sea freight takes 1-1.5 months to deliver.
